Some notable members-elect in the House of Representatives on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have claimed that the lingering crisis trailing the election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker for the 10th Assembly would be resolved amicably.

The lawmakers noted that the nation was already in a serious problem, insisting that good leadership would put an end to it.

They spoke on Monday during a media chat on the sidelines of the ongoing induction of returning and newly elected lawmakers organised by National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, NILDS.

One of the members-elect, Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, member representing Ideato North and South Federal Constituency of Imo State, kicked against the All Progressives Congress, APC, consensus arrangement to impose its preferred aspirants on the House.

Ugochinyere stated that the independence of the parliament is an essential quality that must be maintained if any progress is to be recorded.

He said that the focus should be on purposeful leadership for the 10th Assembly that would bring all members together for a good working relationship.

“I believe that the independence of the parliament is an important foundation for any progress that will be recorded. At the same time, stability and harmonious co-existence is also very important if we must achieve what we promised our people out there,” he said.

On his part, Hon. Cyril Hart (PDP, Rivers) said ”he believed that the APC should be allowed to produce the leadership of the 10th Assembly”.

Hart added that Nigerians will get the best, as there was no cause for alarm.

Also speaking, the former Speaker, Gombe House of Assembly, Hon. Garba Inuwa said “the focus of the greater majority is to have a very focused and purposeful leadership for the 10th Assembly that will bring all members together for a good working relationship.”

Inuwa said the opposition parties would only team up with somebody from the ruling party, if the person is committed and has the will to carry members.

He also added that the person must have a very good understanding of the tenets of the legislature and good relationship.
