Donald Trump’s VP revealed he will not be endorsing the Republican nominee for president

Donald Trump’s vice president won’t be endorsing the former president’s 2024 run to reclaim the White House. On Friday, Mike Pence told Fox News that it should be “no surprise” that he’s not backing the man who said he should be hanged on Jan. 6, 2021.

“It should come as no surprise that I will not be endorsing Donald Trump this year,” Pence told host Martha MacCallum. “Look, I’m incredibly proud of the record of our administration … That being said, during my presidential campaign, I made it clear there were profound differences between me and President Trump on a range of issues.”

“Not just our difference on my constitutional duties that I exercised January 6th. As I have watched his candidacy unfold, I’ve seen him walking away from our commitment to confronting the national debt. I’ve seen him starting to shy away from a commitment to the sanctity of human life,” he added.

In October, Pence suspended his own bid for the presidency after failing to make inroads with voters in a crowded field of Republican candidates. Trump recently clinched the 2024 Republican nominee.

In the aftermath of Jan. 6, there was no chance Trump would choose to run alongside Pence a third time. The former president laid the blame for the failure of his plans to subvert the 2020 election at Pence’s feet, and the former vice president has repeatedly stood by his decision to certify the 2020 election.

While Pence won’t be officially endorsing Trump — as failed candidates Vivek Ramaswamy and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis have — he has indicated that he’s still considering voting for the man who sent an angry mob after him. In August, the former VP refused to rule out casting a ballot for Trump during a CNN interview.

“I’m confident I’ll be able to support the Republican nominee, especially if it’s me,” Pence said. “I will tell you, I’m confident … Republican primary voters are going to choose new leadership for a new time in the life of our nation.”

The voters have chosen. Pence is anything but thrilled about it.
