The indicted former mayor has only paid $214,000 of more than $1.5 million owed in legal expenses

Rudy Giuliani’s legal troubles just keep piling up. On Monday, the former New York mayor and current Trump co-defendant was sued by his ex-attorneys for nearly $1.4 million dollars in unpaid legal fees.

The lawsuit, brought by the law firm Davidoff Hutcher & Citron LLP and attorney Robert J. Costello, “simply seeks payment of an outstanding bill for legal services rendered by Plaintiffs in the amount of $1,360,196.”

The attorneys wrote that between 2019 and 2023, they represented Giuliani as he was investigated by the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, during a criminal RICO election interference investigation in Georgia by the Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, in Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, the Jan. 6 Committee’s investigation, his disbarment proceedings, and 10 other civil lawsuits brought against Giuliani.

Giuliani was reportedly billed “for fees and expenses that totaled $1,574,196,” but “has paid only $214,000 of the total bill leaving a total of $1,360,196.10 outstanding,” the lawsuit reads.

In August, Giuliani was charged alongside Trump and 17 other co-defendants accused of participating in a racketeering scheme that sought to meddle with the 2020 presidential election results in Georgia. That same month, a federal judge found Giuliani liable for defamation after spreading conspiracy theories about two Georgia election workers.
As previously reported by Rolling Stone, Smith’s office has been probing witnesses in their own election investigation regarding Giuliani’s drinking habits, and whether Trump was relying on the advice of an attorney who was intoxicated.
