The former president once again said he would only support the results of the election if he feels they are “honest”

Donald Trump once again refused to commit to accepting the results of the 2024 election, and hinted that he was prepared to “fight” if the outcome isn’t “honest.”

“If everything’s honest, I’d gladly accept the results,” Trump told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in a Wednesday interview when asked if he would accept Wisconsin’s election results. “If it’s not, you have to fight for the right of the country.”

The former president went on to add that “ if everything’s honest, which we anticipate it will be — a lot of changes have been made over the last few years — but if everything’s honest, I will absolutely accept the results.”

In 2020, Wisconsin was one of several states where Trump and his allies attempted to undermine election results through baseless accusations of widespread fraud. The former president’s refusal to accept the will of voters culminated in the violent riot on Jan. 6 at the U.S. Capitol, where Trump’s supporters attempted to undermine the Electoral College certification of President Joe Biden’s victory. Trump is currently a criminal defendant in two cases related to his actions in the aftermath of the 2020 election — one brought by the Justice Department, and another by state prosecutors in Georgia.

Trump made similar comments during a disastrous 2023 CNN town hall event. Telling host Kaitlan Collins that he would only accept the results of the election if they were “honest.”

As previously reported by Rolling Stone, the former president and his allies are already cooking up wide-reaching plans to ensure he comes out on top in a closely contested election. One source indicated that Trump is preparing a “better, smarter legal team” and “auditioning” conservative lawyers who could help him challenge the 2024 results, including through post-election audits of mail-in ballots.

In March, the former president warned of a “bloodbath for the country” if he doesn’t get re-elected. “I don’t think you’re going to have another election in this country if we don’t win this election,” he added.
